A NEW CHANCE - OFF THE COLD PAVEMENT
We met a precious man about five months ago. He was walking around the corner, and we started talking with him about his life. At first, it seemed that he didn’t know why we were talking with him. Then we shared with him that we come around here to meet individuals we know and share about Jesus. From there Joseph started sharing some about his story and how hard it has been on the streets. We asked him if he knows about resources to help him get off the streets, and he said that he does not know anything. We told him that when we surrender our hearts to Jesus, we have the Holy Spirit who equips us to do hard things. The Holy Spirit enables us to take steps in faith. We shared about the housing list, filled out another program application online for him, and we encouraged him to take the next steps and start a new season with God. As the conversation went on, we started to share more about God’s thoughts towards him. We shared how much God loves him and that He has a plan and future for him. After a while, we asked him if he wants to pray together, and he agreed. We declared God’s promises over him, prayed for open doors, and the strength of God to take steps in the faith.
Now about five months later, we saw Joseph sitting on his walker talking to one of his friends. When he saw us, he looked so happy with a smile on his face. He immediately told us that he is in the housing program already and is not sleeping on the cold pavement anymore. Joseph said how happy he is that we get to see each other because he just shortly came by to see his friend. We told him how amazing it is that he took the steps and how God helped him so powerfully. We kept on talking for a while. Joseph remembered all the things we talked about last time. We also shared about what God did in Africa on our last trip and how happy we are being back on the streets. It was such a touching time seeing Joseph be filled with hope again. Joseph shared with us how grateful he is for the fresh start.
