Painting nails and conversations
On the streets, we love to spend time with individuals hearing their stories and getting to know them. Each life is unique and special. Although many have experienced similar pains and challenges in their lives it is still different. In the picture above, we met a precious woman named Tammy who lives on the streets with her husband. We sat down with her, and we shared with her how precious she is. She said that she has been struggling, and she feels completely lost. We got to sit with her and asked her if she would like to have her nails painted while we chatted. She said, “I don’t want you to see my dirty hands, it is terrible.” We assured her that the dirt on her hands is nothing to be ashamed of and how glad we are to meet her. Tammy then stretched out her hands and said “ok thank you, I would love to get the reddish color.” When painting her nails, we listened to her and her story. Later her husband joined us. He was so touched that we painted his wife's nails. He said, “Wow thank you.”
Tammy had tears come down her cheeks sharing how grateful she is that we stopped by. We were able to encourage them to take steps in their journey to freedom. Tammy looked at us with tears in her eyes saying “You don’t even know how much we needed this. You are truly sent to us.”
