A MOMENT OF COMFORT FOR TYLA

While speaking with a man on the street, we noticed a woman peeking out from her tent, watching us. She looked familiar. After saying goodbye to the man, we walked over to her and greeted her. She smiled and said, "I remember when you once came to me and how much it helped me to talk." It had been a while since we last saw her, so we asked her name again.

As soon as we reached out to her, Tyla began to weep. The two others in the tent looked surprised and turned away, giving her space. Holding a tissue to her eyes, she whispered, "I don’t know why, but when you came to me, I just felt that I am allowed to cry."

She opened up about her disappointments and emotional pain, sharing how difficult things had been. As we listened, it became clear that she simply needed someone to hear her, offer comfort, and remind her that she is not alone.

By the end of our conversation, Tyla said she felt lighter and would start thinking about the next steps for her life. She expressed gratitude for the time spent together and looked forward to talking again. Sometimes, just being there for someone can make all the difference.
